Refreshing Your Home for Spring

As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, spring brings a sense of renewal and fresh energy. Just as nature awakens, your home can benefit from a seasonal refresh. From decluttering to adding bright, airy touches, here are some simple and effective ways to update your home for spring.
I always stay true to a color palette that is cohesive with the home's overall aesthetic. But with the changing seasons, I love to introduce new, complimentary shades and tones. For example, if your home is very neutral (think beige, tan, and brown), you can incorporate new colors in different ways for each season. Blue is a great way to add newness without getting too far outside your comfort zone. Opt for navy and gold during the winter holidays, and switch to a lighter, Carolina blue and champagne for Spring and Summer. If loud, bright, colors are not your forte, simply choose pale muted shades that still give a nod to the season. Whether your style is modern, traditional, farmhouse, glam, or French country, there are many ways to stay true to your style but still refresh your space for each season.
First I start with a clean slate. Decluttering and cleaning are an important part of updating your home's interior design. Remove and properly store any decor that no longer fits the season, or simply feels dated. Next, I like to take inventory of what is staying, such as the furniture, rugs, window treatments, etc. Then I map the floor plan, making certain I have the most functional use of the space. This typically requires some rearranging of the furniture. Once that is complete, it’s time to start introducing new art pieces, accessories, and fabrics making certain the overall look is still cohesive with the rest of the home.
Every Spring I like to address three specific categories. A) Textiles & Texture... B) Color... C) Greenery & Floral. In each category it is important to swap items for a fresher, more seasonal appropriate look. Examples of easy swaps include replacing thick, cozy fur throw blankets or pillows with thinner, light weight, less bulky options made with cotton or linen. Introducing new colors can be daunting, but I never shy away from trying something new! Winter decor often features deep, cozy tones, but Spring calls for light, fresh colors like pastels, whites, and nature-inspired greens and blues. Simply opt for a pale version of a particular hue if you are uncertain or try it in a small dose. If you have wooden items such as trays, or picture frames, swap darker tones for lighter blonde options. Changing candle colors/scents is a simple, yet impactful way to update for Spring. Floral, citrus, and fresh scents are ideal to create the perfect ambiance. Nothing says Spring like fresh flowers and greenery. Plants add so much life to a space and help the room feel finished. Bring nature indoors with vases of tulips, daffodils, lilies, peonies, or lilacs. Plants and trees such as ferns, fiddle leaf figs, or pothos can also help purify the air. If you don’t have a green thumb, faux plants can still bring in the look of nature without the maintenance. Floral or botanical prints on pillows, curtains, or table linens also add a cheerful seasonal touch.
I love the popularity of femininity and romance in home design. It’s the idea of adding softness and comfort in a pretty and polished way. This trend is inviting and calming. You can achieve this look by introducing delicate floral patterns, ruffles on fabric, whimsical finishes, or choosing dainty accessories with soft edges. Saturated hues are still a very prominent piece of home design. Color drenching was huge in 2024 and will still be very relevant in 2025. This is the idea of choosing a deep, rich color, and using it everywhere from the ceiling to the trim and doors, including the walls. Often you will see two bold shades in the same space, which works well if they complement each other nicely and aren’t competing. Finally I am excited to play with embellishments. My moto has always been “more is more”! I love shimmer, pleats, tassels, fringe, fluted wood, ornate trim, ruffles, etc. This trend speaks to my soul. The only catch is, don’t overdue it! Let the special finishes have their moment and not compete with other objects in the room.
In conclusion, updating your home for Spring doesn’t have to be a major renovation. Its all about small impactful changes. By embracing lighter colors, natural elements, and fresh scents, you can create a bright, welcoming space that reflects the beauty of the season.
